The proverb, ‘It takes a village to raise a child,’ underscores the vital role of community support in nurturing a child’s development.
This concept is equally important for ensuring that children, teens, and young adults receive high-quality mental healthcare. That’s why Newport’s partnerships with referring professionals are essential to our mission of fostering hope and promoting sustainable healing for families.
By building partnerships with mental health providers, hospitals, school professionals, pediatricians, medical providers, and employers, Newport creates a robust network that not only facilitates timely access to necessary resources and care but also connects families with a caring, nurturing community that supports them throughout their journey.
Referral Partnerships: Building Community and Support
Kimberly Storey, Newport’s Vice President Clinical Outreach, says that when a young person is in crisis, there are several adults outside of the family who may recognize shifts in behavior. Professionals, such as pediatricians and school counselors, she said, are essential in identifying when a young person requires additional support, but they may not know exactly what support is required.
This is where Newport’s National Clinical Outreach team plays a crucial role, providing expert guidance to bridge the knowledge gap. The team collaborates closely with professionals in their region, serving as a resource for them, their staff, and the families they serve. The goal is to help navigate the often-complex landscape of behavioral healthcare, so that the young person receives the appropriate level of care, as quickly and seamlessly as possible.
“It’s our job to every day to go out to spread that awareness so that the family or the professional doesn’t feel overwhelmed or lost with a Google search,” Kim said. “We treat the professional as if they’re an extension of the family.”

How Clinical Outreach Specialists Provide Support
The Clinical Outreach team acts as a navigator and advocate for professionals and families, helping to:
- Assist families and professionals in finding the right treatment, whether at Newport or vetted programs
- Educate families about the various levels of care, from outpatient to residential treatment, and the options available to them
- Identify step-down care when appropriate
Continuous Education Opportunities
In a rapidly evolving mental health landscape, continuous education is not just beneficial—it’s essential. The clinical outreach team is available to deliver educational presentations onsite or online. Additionally, Newport’s offers CE/CME webinars. Led by our team of experts, these engaging sessions cover the latest research and best practices on a variety of mental health topics.

I could tell that your support was genuine. You took the time to listen, to educate us, you were direct about possible outcomes, and you were patient. As a mom, as a nurse, as a human being who was feeling alone and hopeless for her child, THANK YOU.

How Newport Builds Trust with Referring Partners
A survey of professionals featured in Newport’s latest outcomes report shows that 99 percent say they would refer again. This success rate, Kim says, is a testament to every staff member that is a part of the client’s journey.
This trust can also be attributed to Newport’s clinical model and the compassionate care clients receive throughout treatment. Each client’s individualized plan includes medical and psychiatric care, evidence-based therapies, experiential therapies, an accredited academic curriculum, and life skills program. That’s why 95 percent of referring professionals report that their clients received exceptional treatment at Newport.
And the referral partner relationship is mutually beneficial. Kim explains professionals often have a history with the client that they can share with the outreach team, which is helpful in determining level of care.
Messages of Gratitude
Kim says they are thrilled to receive messages from professionals about their positive experience with Newport, like this one from a hospital staff member.
Although I am not new to case management, I am new to working with adolescents who are eligible for residential care. Newport has been my best experience since I started my practicum role for adolescents.
Supporting Families Directly
The clinical outreach team also supports families directly. Their goal is to inform families of their care options, answer any questions, and help them make an educated decision.
This message from a parent shows the gratitude felt after exploring facility options, feeling overwhelmed and frustrated with the process, and finally feeling seen by Newport staff.
I could tell that your support was genuine. You took the time to listen, to educate us, you were direct about possible outcomes, and you were patient. Even now, while we are still exploring options that you connected us to and waiting for insurance approvals, your text check-ins, offers to connect when needed, is what is keeping us moving after hitting so many walls. As a mom, as a nurse, as a human being who was feeling alone and hopeless for her child, THANK YOU.
