Intensive Outpatient Programs provide comprehensive care with a flexible schedule, making them ideal for teens or young adults who require more support than traditional outpatient therapy, but don’t need 24/7 care found in residential treatment.

IOP is especially beneficial for teens or young adults who:

  • Are experiencing moderate to severe mental health symptoms that disrupt daily life
  • Want a structured treatment plan while continuing to manage work, school, or other commitments
  • Have completed a higher level of care, such as residential or Partial Hospitalization Program treatment

Overall, IOP is an ideal option for those seeking effective mental health support that can fit into their everyday lives. To help determine if IOP is the right fit for you or your child, give us a call or consult with a local mental health professional.

Our IOP for teens and IOP for young adults offer programming 3–5 days a week, typically from 3:00–6:00 pm (hours may vary by location). The program includes weekly individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and life skills programming.

Our programming features:

  • Clinical therapy utilizing a variety of modalities
  • Family therapy
  • Psychiatric services as needed
  • Caring peer community
  • Support for the whole family

We are dedicated to helping teens and young adults heal and thrive, by providing comprehensive treatment programs that emphasize connection, inspiration, and support systems. We specialize in treating the following mental health disorders:

The extreme sadness and despair that accompanies depression threatens a young person’s safety and well-being as well as their daily functioning. The emotional pain can lead to substance use, self-harm, eating disorders, and thoughts of suicide. Our treatment program helps uncover the root cause of the depression in order to sustain long-term healing.

Living with anxiety can hold you back from being the person you’re meant to be. It can impact every aspect of your life, from your capacity to handle school, work, and relationships. But it doesn’t have to. Anxiety is highly treatable with the right care.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a serious psychological disorder that develops in some people who have been through or witnessed a traumatic event, such as a serious car accident, natural disaster, or physical or sexual abuse. Treatment helps alleviate the distressing symptoms, such as flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, and emotional numbness. Improving overall quality of life.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by unwanted thoughts and fears that drive a person to do compulsive acts in order to ease the stress. Our OCD-specific treatment program helps young people manage OCD symptoms reclaim their lives.

Eating disorders affect a young person’s physical and mental health. Symptoms such as extreme weight loss, changes in appearance, and physical exhaustion are dangerous and need immediate treatment. We treat primary mental health and secondary eating disorders in teens and young adults.

Bipolar disorder is a condition characterized by severe mood swings that fluctuate between extreme highs, known as mania, to extreme lows, or depression. While the disorder is a lifelong condition, treatment can help people manage symptoms.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is characterized by intense emotional instability, impulsive behaviors, and difficulties in interpersonal relationships. Treatment, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), can help individuals develop coping strategies and emotional regulation skills.

Substance use disorder in teens and young adults negatively affects every area of their life. Over time, recreational substance use can lead to severe addictions that threaten young people’s mental and physical health, relationships, and finances. With treatment, young people can achieve long-term recovery and build a brighter future.

Social drinking and partying can lead to severe alcohol addiction, which can threaten every area of a teen or young adult’s life. Our treatment program addresses the root cause, helping young people process past trauma, build resilience and self-worth, and develop healthy coping skills.

People with psychosis have a disconnection from reality, which can manifest as hallucinations and delusions. Individuals may have difficulty distinguishing between what is real and what is not, leading to significant distress and impairment in daily functioning. Comprehensive treatment can support recovery and improve overall well-being.

Newport’s IOP offers numerous advantages for teens, young adults, and their families. Here are some key benefits:

Each teen or young adult receives a customized treatment plan designed to meet their specific needs and treatment goals. Our comprehensive approach integrates medical and psychiatric care, clinical therapy, and family support.

IOP is less intensive than residential programs, allowing clients to keep up with work, school, or family commitments while receiving the care they need.

Our skilled clinicians utilize various evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). These approaches help uncover and address underlying issues that contribute to mental health challenges.

Participants in our IOP have access to a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals— psychiatrists, therapists, counselors, and more—who work collaboratively to provide comprehensive, personalized care.

Family therapy sessions are an integral part of our program, using Attachment-Based Family Therapy to improve communication and repair relationships. This support helps teens feel more comfortable going to their parents with challenges after treatment. Young adults can opt for family therapy to strengthen relationships with their parents.

IOP provides a nurturing environment where young people can with peers facing similar challenges. This sense of community can be invaluable during the recovery process.

We prioritize aftercare planning to ensure a smooth transition back to regular outpatient therapy or other support services, maintaining continuity of care and ongoing support after completing the program.

Our Alumni Program fosters a sense of belonging and community, connecting clients and families online and in person long after treatment ends. Research shows that this connection is vital for maintaining recovery.

Recognizing when you or someone you care about may benefit from IOP is important for early intervention, which can lead to better outcomes.

IOP might be a good fit if you or a loved one are experiencing:

  • Persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, or irritability that disrupt daily life

  • Withdrawal from friends and family, or loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
  • Engaging in risky behaviors, such as substance use or self-harm
  • Declining performance at work or school, or a lack of motivation
  • Difficulty managing daily tasks, such as work responsibilities or personal care
  • Increased tension or conflict with your family
