The transition back to school can present unique challenges for young people with eating disorders and disordered eating, as well as the families who support them. This presentation explores how changes in routine, academic and social pressures, and developmental transitions can affect recovery. Healthcare professionals will gain strategies to identify risk factors, support resilience, and help clients navigate transitions.
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe three ways how back-to-school transitions, developmental milestones, and changes in routine can influence eating disorder risk, symptom exacerbation, and recovery.
- Identify two protective factors and two early warning signs that may emerge during school transitions.
- Apply three interdisciplinary strategies to support clients and families in preparing for and navigating school-related transitions to limit relapse risk.
