Slaying Your Demons: The Use of Tabletop Role-Playing Games in Therapy

In this presentation, attendees will learn about the effectiveness and clinical applications of tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), such as Dungeons & Dragons, within group therapeutic sessions utilizing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). We will discuss the research supporting this emerging field, as well as the history of TTRPGs, cultural considerations, and safety tools. Participants will learn character creation and watch a therapeutic encounter.
After participating in this webinar, attendees will be able to:
1. Describe how TTRPGs can be used in a therapeutic session
2. Identify a safety tool used in therapeutic TTRPGs
3. Identify where to find resources for diverse TTRPGs
4. Discuss the basics of character creation
5. Identify three contributors to psychological flexibility
Speaker Bio:
Erin Chamberlain, LCMHC
Erin is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with experience in various levels of mental healthcare, including residential treatment, community mental health centers, outpatient individual and group therapy, and emergency services. She has her own practice, Stonecrop Counseling in Concord, New Hampshire, where she offers individual therapy and Therapeutic Dungeons & Dragons groups.
