As we approach the 1 year anniversary of my child coming home from Newport, I reflect on how different our lives look now then they did a year ago. She has grown and healed in ways that 1 year ago I did not think possible. After trying different therapy, PHP, and IOP programs, we knew we needed something more. Newport gave her/us that. The supports and systems were just what our family needed. Being in a house with other kids who were also struggling in similar ways and just got it created the community and space to do the work. Taking away the phones and social media and replacing them instead with group, skills, empowering activities, and inspiring movies helped clear out the negative chatter and made space to focus on the positive. As parents we felt supported and learned so much. Sending our child to Newport was one of the hardest things we had ever done, and I am so thankful we did.
