Trying to Carry Water in a Colander: Supporting Executive Functioning Skills in Neurodivergent Clients
with Matthew John Zakreski, PsyD
Friday, February 21 | 9:00 am PT/12:00 pm ET
Duration: 1 hour
“Can’t you just focus?” That’s a common refrain directed at neurodivergent children, teens, and young adults who struggle with executive functioning skills, such as time management, organization, task initiation, response inhibition, etc. This presentation will clear up the misinformation surrounding executive functioning skills, especially why they occur and how to help remediate them. We’ll look at the neuroscience behind executive functioning, and how to use the realities of the neurodivergent brain to help clients shape and build these skills.
After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
* Explain how executive functioning challenges are linked to neuroscience and to various developmental conditions across the psychological and behavioral spectrums
* Describe executive functioning strategies that have been shown to work with neurodivergent clients, and discuss how to adapt those strategies for clients
* Identify challenges in supporting clients to implement executive functioning strategies, and explain ways to overcome those challenges
