Maximizing Relational Engagement in Treatment with Adolescents and Their Parents

Virtual Event

November 14, 2025 @ 9:00 am 10:30 am PST

Research shows that across all populations and levels of care, the client-therapist relationship is the strongest predictor of treatment success. Yet adolescents and young adults—often mistrustful of adults and resistant to change—are among the hardest to engage, especially when family are involved in treatment.

This training provides an evidence-based model for building authentic connections with adolescents and young adults while effectively engaging parents in the process. Participants will leave with practical tools and strategies to apply in any therapeutic setting.

After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Apply strategies for each skill set that can enhance engagement in any treatment approach
  • Discuss the research supporting the client-therapist relationship as the main driver of positive treatment outcomes
  • Identify common barriers to engaging adolescents, young adults, and their parents in therapy
  • Describe the five essential skill sets for building authentic, trust-based relationships that drive lasting change
