Identifying Systems of Power for Clinicians

Virtual Event

June 6, 2025 @ 9:00 am 10:30 am PDT

Often associated with Latin American theology, liberation philosophy emphasizes the liberation of the oppressed and marginalized, aiming to create a more just and equitable society. Founded on the idea of examining systems of power, within both present and past cultures, the interventions that result from this philosophy aim to bridge that reflection with action. This means evaluating systems of power in relationships with our clients, students, supervisees, and colleagues. This presentation will look at these dynamics, and explore how we, as individuals and a field as a whole, can work to alleviate the power imbalances in our profession.

After attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Establish methods for formulating liberation-based interventions that can be implemented in clinical practice
  • Define liberation philosophy in the context of clinical work
  • Identify systems of power in fields of clinical practice, both present and historic
